Getting to Easter Island – March 31 – April 5, 2012

Posted by on Apr 19, 2012 in Adventure, Beach, Historical, Travel | 5 comments

Planning my trip to Easter Island wasn’t as much of a challenge as I expected. Granted that Easter Island is said to be to “the most remote inhabited island in the world.” A high school classmate of mine, and fellow adventurer, Gabby Malvar, is the only other person I personally know who has been to Easter Island. When I asked him how to get there, he told me it was “complicated” to get there, requiring several transfers and modes of transportation. Perhaps I heard him wrong, but that is what stuck to my mind. When I actually researched it… it wasn’t that complicated at all.

I’ve been to Boracay Island many times since my first visit in 2002 though my last trip was in 2008. There have been a lot of nice changes to the island and its facilities since then. Over the years, I have read complaints from folks who have complained about the changes to Boracay in the recent past. Pleasantly, I for one am happy with the current state of island, which according to Travel and Leisure is the #2 Island Destination in Asia and #4 in the world.

Way back when, long before destinations like Boracay, Hundred Islands was one of the few typical popular tourist destinations frequented in tourists in the Philippines like Baguio and Pagsanjan Falls. In recent years I rarely heard of people actually going to Hundred Islands. So I wondered… “Is the place worth going to these days?”

The day after our tour of Mayon Volcano and Vera Falls, we were now up and ready to go swimming with the Whale Sharks or “Butanding”. People have said that the best time to go to Donsol is between February to April when the Whale Sharks pass through and are plentiful. We had to get up for our van’s 5am pick up as we started on our 2.5 hour trip to Donsol fom Legazpi City.
