This past weekend, October 29 - November 1, 2011 was the only four-day-weekend thus far this year. For days preceding this weekend, (and during the weekend) people asked me “So where are you going this weekend Jo?” Much to everyone’s surprise, my response was “no where… I am just staying home.”

Way back when, long before destinations like Boracay, Hundred Islands was one of the few typical popular tourist destinations frequented in tourists in the Philippines like Baguio and Pagsanjan Falls. In recent years I rarely heard of people actually going to Hundred Islands. So I wondered… “Is the place worth going to these days?”

During my weekend trip to Thailand from August 26-29, I did not have much of an agenda. Actually I did not have any agenda. When I arrived at Kent’s hotel room on the evening of Friday, August 26, he asked me “so where are we going?” I told him I didn’t have any plans at that point in time. Whenever most people visit a place like Thailand (or Vietnam… or Cambodia), they usually go for the “cultural” tours like visiting ruins, temples, Buddhas, etc. I guess I was like that before. These days, I just simply love soaking up a place for what it is… today. I’d love to experience, to a certain degree, what locals experience.

The day after our tour of Mayon Volcano and Vera Falls, we were now up and ready to go swimming with the Whale Sharks or “Butanding”. People have said that the best time to go to Donsol is between February to April when the Whale Sharks pass through and are plentiful. We had to get up for our van’s 5am pick up as we started on our 2.5 hour trip to Donsol fom Legazpi City.

I started my travel adventures on a “dare” to visit Taal Volcano in December of 2008. This was followed a week later by a trek to Mt. Pinatubo in January 2009. Thus was born a temporary love affair with volcanoes. I thus decided that I wanted to finally see the iconic Mayon Volcano. So after the Pinatubo trip, we went to PAL and booked flights to Legazpi City for a weekend trip from March 14-16, 2009. On this trip with me are Jasper Jugan (The Backpack Boy), Kent Macatangay, and Dru Leonardo.

I love Chinese Food. Its one of those types of cooking which is always “safe” and you always know what to expect. When “The Backpack Boy” Jasper Jugan invited me to lunch, he suggested “Crystal Jade” in Greenhills. I had never heard of the place before and what came to mind with the name like Crystal Jade, alongside every stereotypical Chinese restaurant with the words, Golden… Lucky… Dragon… etc. in it was the type of old-style Chinese restaurant where you would see all of these old people celebrating a 50th Wedding Anniversary. Thankfully… this was not one of “those” kind of places.
