Angeles Fried Chicken – Angeles, Pampanga
On the way back to Manila from Tarlac where Chris and I went for lunch at Isdaan Floating Restaurant in Gerona, Tarlac, Chris suggested we go to this place called “Angeles Fried Chicken.”
“AFC” is located on Marlim Street, just off MacArthur Highway. If you are coming from the NLEX Angeles exit, turn left on MacArthur, then keep your eye out for Chevalier School on the left. Then look out for Marlim Ave on the left. You should see a Diamond Subdivision in front of you (you can’t miss a big cement diamond)
When we entered, you are transported through time. The place and décor seems to date back to the 70’s. Then on top of the bar you see them proudly display a sign “The oldest restaurant in Angeles City”

Now personally, I don’t know if that distinction is really a positive note. Well, that all depends on the food I guess. I prefer their claim over the chicken “taste’s heavenly”

So we ordered our food. Now, note that it has just been an hour since we left Isdaan Restaurant. You could consider this meal still part of lunch. At any rate, we were still so full.
I had to have the fried chicken… of course. But since we just ate. Instead of ordering 2 pcs of chicken with rice. We ordered the 5 pcs of Chicken Wings instead. It came with some interesting sauce which I virtually ignored. And yes, the chicken did taste “heavenly.” It a typical Filipino fried chicken (not the American “Southern” fried chicken style like KFC)… friend to perfection. I loved it.

I had to order this… Chicharon Bulaklak. The thing about ordering this in Pampanga, the Kapampangan people know how to cook chicharon perfectly. It is not the typical crispy/dry type usually served in Manila restaurants. This was perfectly juicy and flavored just right.

Meanwhile, Christian ordered a single order of mashed potato. This has got to be the best restaurant-cooked-from-scratch-and-not-instant mashed potato ever. No kidding.

Of course I ate my chicken wings with my fingers. Which is the only way to eat chicken wings. That said, the waiter dropped off something I had not seen in years. “Finger Bowls.” This is obviously for one to dip their fingers in and rinse off the oil without having to go to the restroom. Haha. This is the only place I know that still does this. Then again, it is the oldest restaurant in Angeles City.

This is definitely a great place for a great classic meal!
