Classic Savory, Robinsons Metro East
When one thinks about Filipino Fried Chicken, what comes to mind should be Max’s Fried Chicken. Shame on you it doesn’t. But if you are looking for something slightly different… try Classic Savory.
Classic Savory is apparently born out of the Savory Chicken House, the creation of the Ting Family whose first branch was located in Escolta in Manila. Classic Savory is apparently the result of the current generation of the Ting Family owing from the original Savory Chicken House.
Which is which?
Before I continue, I’d like to point out that I have noticed two chains of Savory. One is just called “Savory” and the I refer to in this post is “Classic Savory”. It is common for Filipino family-owned businesses to branch out in variants of the same traditional recipes (i.e.. Artistocrat, Allex III, Serye, Reyes Barbecue). Just pointing this out as this could be a source of confusion. Let me say now, that the chickens from these two are slightly different… Savory’s chicken is dryer.
The first branch of Classic Savory I visited was at the Marquee Mall in Angeles CIty. Followed by a visit to the branch at The Link in Makati. This visit is from the branch I accidentally discovered in Robinsons Metro East along Marcos Highway when I was coming back from Antipolo.

I just ordered a half-chicken. There a lot of choices on the menu… but I was looking forward to the chicken. What I love about Savory’s Chicken is that it does not taste like Max’s Friend Chicken. Interestingly, it tastes like Chinese Peking Duck… and that yummy oily taste that comes with it. It is so heavenly!

Ahh… yum yum yum!

According to the entrepreneur magazine july 2010 issue, there are 4 savory families. The original, classic, just savory and little asia.
My favorite is still the original side. They handle the escolta branch.
Hi,
Just the other day, I learned that there are 3 different groups of Savory. There’s Classic Savory, Savory and there’s The Original Savory.
Just an erratum on your post, from what I read, the ones who own the Savory in Binondo that has been existing since 1950, is owned by The Original Savory, not the Classic Savory. I know, it’s easy to get confused because they both have the old picture of the old Savory facade in their stores.
I read it in Entrepreneur magazine’s July 2010 issue, which discussed the difference and timeline of the 3 Savory groups.
Cheers!
Marco
P.S. My wife and I tried eating in Orchard Road, SM last Wednesday after reading your post. I ordered the roasted version of the Hainanese chicken. It’s really good! Thanks for the heads up! Will come back soon.
Hey guys, thanks for the information. I as just going on observation. – Jojo
