Where do I want to go today?

Mikedee’s, UP-Ayala TechnoHub, Quezon City

For those that have ever been to the UP-Ayala TechnoHub along Commonwealth Avenue, know that there are a host of restaurants in the retail area. As I work in a building within the TechnoHub campus, I frequent the restaurants often. Too often. If I am too lazy to forage for food elsewhere, it’s somewhat “nakakasawa” to eat in the same places over and over again.

I was thrilled when this new resto opened up next to Kanin Club around 2 months ago. For many months the tarpaulin banner boasted of steaks, burgers, etc.

Today would be my 3rd time to eat here. I thought it was about time I blogged about it.

I am really not sure how the name of this place is pronounced… I assume it is pronounced “Mickey-dees” then again, perhaps the owner’s name is Mike Dee? I dunno, I never asked. Maybe I should.

I ordered my favorite dish here. Peppered Tenderloin Steak… which is unfortunately the only Beef Steak in the place… personally I think they should have maybe 3-4 varieties, maybe a T-Bone, Rib-Eye, Salpicao (I only thought of this because of the Salpicao I had at Pino Resto Bar yesterday).

Anyway, I digress. I love pepper sauce on steak.

The dish can be ordered with rice, by opted for mashed potato for an additional P40.

Anyway, this is the second time I ordered this dish. I recommended it to Carlo once and he agreed it was tasty.

Here is how my plate looked after a few minutes.

My colleagues ordered the Black Angus Burger with Onion Rings

I didn’t taste this, but it did look yummy. A nice thick beef patty is always good.

That said, my experience here hasn’t always been great. One night Carlo and I went over here for some dinner. As I had ordered the Peppered Tenderloin recently I ordered a Philly Cheese Steak (you will notice my obsession for beef)

(Pardon the picture, it was an evening shot with bad lighting for a camera phone)

When I opened it up… WHERE IS THE CHEESE? (again, pardon the blurred pic).

Taste wise, it was mediocre.

BUT I must say, the french fries were fantastic!

Another dish worth bashing is their Gumbo.

The dish looked like Paella rather than Gumbo. I have had Gumbo in New Orleans… this was not Gumbo. Again, it was Paella. But it did not taste like Paella. It tasted like rice with shrimp with tomato sauce.

Admittedly, I have not tried much of the other dishes, but clearly the dishes are hit or miss. Do I recommend it? I give the place so far 6 out of 10. Why have been here 3x? It’s the only place in the TechnoHub with steak.

  1. Ei Jojo. You should have informed me that you’re going to Mikedee’s. I work a few steps away from there but I haven’t tried it out yet. I’ll definitely try it mid next week with some colleagues.

    Thanks for sharing!

    • Hey Mai… I work in the Technohub too! You work at THAT HSBC? What a small world indeed. I work in Building Alpha

  2. As you likely know, they are already closed. I would have rated them a 3 out of 10, and feel that is generous. It is primarily because they had some decent beer selections. Their Philly Cheesesteak sandwich was a joke, never mind where’s the cheese, but where was the steak???

All in all, no great loss. I hope they replace them with a decent resto with a good beer selection.

Oh, an before I forget, the MickyDee’s name is a rip-off of McDonalds, which in the US is aptly called McD’s…

    Cheers,

    C
