Bola-Bola Pao, Kowloon House – May 8, 2010
Comfort Food, defined by Wikipedia as “simple, familiar food that is usually home-cooked or eaten at informal restaurants. More generally, comfort food can be defined as food that brings some form or measure of comfort, sense of well-being, or easy satisfaction…” Of the many things I would consider as “Comfort Food,” I get two of these from Kowloon House… the first being Bola Bola Siopao (or just Pao) and Beef Siomai.
Kowloon House has been around for as long as I remember. There used to be a Kowloon House along Katipunan Road which is now Tia Maria’s and Starbucks. While the chain sometimes has a restaurant, it is more popular as a 24-hour dimsum take out. And lucky for me, there are many Kowloon dimsum kiosks all over the city.
Last night, I went around for an evening drive. When is lurking around close to midnight, eating options are limited, unless you want to go for your standard fare of 24-hour Jollibee or McDonald’s outlets. I quickly pulled into the relatively new Kowloon kiosk along White Plains for quick fix.
While I usually order both Bola-Bola Pao and Beef Siomai at the same time, I decided to just go for just one of the two. After around 5 seconds of internal reflection and debate, I ordered the Siopao.
The best reason for eating at the store instead of take-out is that you get the thick version of the hot sauce. If you do take-out, they give you an extremely watered down version.
And then I ate… nothing left to blog on this… yum!

Do they sell mami? Masarap kasama sa siopao mo.
In some stores they do. The ones along C5 and Katipunan (White Plains) do.
