Where do I want to go today?

Ilocos Empanada, Katipunan Ave.

Every now and then I get a craving for something really different. For someone born and raised in Quezon City, one of the things my taste buds craves for is Empanada, the Ilocos region kind. It’s not too uncommon here in Manila, but they aren’t exactly everywhere. Lucky for me, there is one such store along Katipunan… aptly called “Ilocos Empanada”.

It’s the same building where Bo’s Coffee is at the corner of Katipunan and B. Gonzales. Right across Miriam/Ateneo border.

I stopped by and ordered a “Pork Empanada” for just P45.

What’s great when you take out, they give a small packet of authentic Ilocos Vinegar to go with it.

And there it is. Wrapped and fried in the classic bright orange dough…

I really like the empanada from this store, it tastes as close to the original one’s I had at the palenke near Laoag. Yum!!!

Wanna take a peak inside?

If you have never had an authentic Ilocos Empanada, you are missing a lot! Go… go try it!

  1. Hi. I just got back from Ilocos last night. It was my first time there so I was really excited to taste the very famous Ilocos Empanada. I just had two empanadas the other day but I’m still craving for more. When I saw your picture of it, oh boy.. I want to head to Katipunan right now and order five empanadas. Hope there would be more branches of Ilocos Empanada here in Manila.

    • Actually, every now, I have seen a number of places that do sell Ilocos Empanada. There used to be a stall in Glorietta called Ilocos Taco (or something like that) until it closes. I guess you just need to keep your eyes open. The store in Katipunan is the only fixed store I am aware of.

  2. I finally tasted Ilocos Empanada from Katipunan last Monday. Sarap! The dough was so crispy almost like chicharon. :)

    • Hmm… I never thought of it that way.
