Where do I want to go today?

Balayan, Batangas – April 9, 2010

After a few cancelled plans I invited Patrick for an impulse trip to Balayan, Batangas. So what is there in this town known as Balayan. I know of two things about this place. One, I have been diving in Balayan Bay for several years now, this town is the bay’s namesake. Two, on June 24 each year they have a Lechon Parade. Imagine that, a parade of Lechons.

Jasper and I had previously discussed about venturing into somewhat innocuous little town to see what there is there. An intriguing idea.

Getting there, we headed towards Tagaytay, then proceeded to Balayan via Nasugbu. It was an easy drive. Nothing to complicated there.

We stopped at the town center and looked around this beautiful Church of the Immaculate Concepcion.

We got there around noon time so we looked for a restaurant to eat in. Aside from a McDonald’s, a Jollibee, and an Andoks the place had no places to eat at. Which was odd. Where are these famous Lechons in Balayan? Do they just cook these once a year on June 24? Hmmm. Granted those are the things one only prepares for special occasions like Fiestas, weddings and the such… but why was this town so famous for it?

This was kinda odd. Lechon aside, there didn’t seem to be any local eateries, well none by the town center anyway. I assumed we would find some places eventually if we ventured more towards the bay, but after roaming around the town we were kinda at a loss.

Anyway. Somewhat annoyed and hungry, we left Balayan in search of a town which would feed us.

  2. Hi Mr. Lakwatsero.
Have you visited Lian Batangas? I heard they have nice beaches too. Are there other things to do/see there besides stay on the beach? Just wondering if it’s worth putting into my 3-week itinerary. Thanks again.

  3. we don’t have lots of big restaurants at Balayan, but we surely have places to eat. You should ask around the town. We have the Agot’s bar and restaurant which is inside the town proper, YMC food haus if you’re into merienda, Tansioco’s if you’re looking for crispy pata, balayan sizzling food haus, habibi’s which is a persian restaurant, and a lot more. I think you’re too hungry then to ask. :) visit again and rediscover everything :)
