Chicken Rice Shop, Kota Kinabalu – June 24-26, 2009
Every now and then, one makes a jewel of a find. For a traveler not familiar with the local food outlets, you never really know what’d good or bad unless you venture to experiment. Scourging for breakfast led us to the safe option of McDonald’s. Dinner would be a pleasant adventure. One I would repeat for 3 meals during my stay in Kota Kinabalu.
On the second night, I went out on my own to explore the city. When one goes around on foot, you experience the culture more.

I ended up in what appears to be an all day (and night) market. Among other things, they sold mangoes… Philippine Mangoes. Considering Sabah is a stones throw away from Zamboanga, it shouldn’t be surprising. Anyway, back to walking…
So after walking around for around two hours, entering shops, climbing stairs I was now very hungry. So I started looking for options, and it didn’t take me too long. At first I walked by familiar restaurants…like Fish & Co., another Secret Recipe, Seattle’s Best and other typical (though unfamiliar) restaurants. I then had a craving for Chicken Rice. I had some on the plane the previous day so I went hunting for a place that serviced it.
I then stopped at a restaurant which resembled a Jollibee, I looked up… and what did I see?

Haha… you can’t go anymore blunt than a store called Chicken Rice Shop. (website)
I went in… sat down, looked through the menu. I chose what seemed like the most standard dish I could get. "Single Chicken Set”.

What arrived surely seemed like a lot. It consisted of:
1) 2pcs Pai Tee
2) Roast Chicken
3) Bean Sprouts
4) A bowl of Chicken Rice
5) Soup of the day
6) 1 Pepsi
7) Dessert
I didn’t know what Pai Tee was. Tasted like Lumpia Toge.
Anyway… the meal was yummy!!! I said I would eat here again.
The next night, I was able to convince my friends to have dinner here.
On the last day, before our flight back to Clark, we found ourselves in Sabah’s version of SM called 1Borneo. After walking around for an hour, we decided to get some lunch before going back to the hotel to pick up our bags and hop on the airport transfer.
We went to the lower ground floor to find an eatery… lo and behold!

Hence… Chicken Rice meal #3.
Yum.
Kailangan ko bang i-rate to? Kumain nga ako ditong tatlong beses
